Your website is up and running and you’ve let the world know about it, now you need to work to keep raising its profile.

The best way to communicate both the presence of a website and the work it does is through a successful social media presence.

Use all platforms you are comfortable with and that are used by your audience– hopefully there are a few – and get used to regularly posting.

Sometimes this might require a bit of creativity but often the process is natural. Share your news and your thoughts. Think of social media as an ongoing, open conversation – replies optional!

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you have nothing to share, if you are working there is always something going on.

Good content to share

  • New projects/contracts – take a picture and write a few words, it doesn’t need to be overcomplicated
  • The completion of a project
  • Fundraisers
  • New clients/ deals
  • New members of staff
  • Staff milestones – weddings, birthdays, years of service
  • Industry news – share articles relevant to your business and don’t be shy to add your thoughts
  • Memes – the popularity of celebrating Friday never seems to wane, but also consider days of significance – sports events, national days, etc.
  • Write posts to promote your work/ events. Remember to include contact information and don’t be too salesy

Online networking

Always remember to engage with other social media users, this will make you part of an online community – particularly within related industries.

Online networking is a powerful tool in the digital age. Like and share other firms posts and reply to their content, and they are likely to reciprocate. This will help to further your reach, getting your content out to more people at no additional cost.

Look to others for inspiration

A good example of optimising social media is JCB’s online presence. Yes, it’s an iconic brand – but at the end of the day it is a manufacturer that specialises in construction and manages to frequently share interesting content.

JCB posts heavily feature its products in action – using both photos and video with a short description. It also shares profiles of staff members, industry events and outside events of interest to its followers. Take a look at their Twitter and their Facebook activity.

Don’t ignore social media, it is an endless pool of ideas, inspiration and potential clients. Share the message and drive traffic to your website – just remember to include a link back to your site whenever possible.
