How to find out how many people are visiting your website?
Whether you have a brand new or well-established website, you’re going to want to know how many people are visiting it. And beyond that, it would be helpful to know things like which page they arrive on, which pages they are visiting, how long they are staying on each page etc. This is all data that can be made available by using one of the many free website analytics programs. The most popular of these is called Google Analytics. As this is the most popular analytics tool available, this is the one we’re going to talk about for the rest of the article.
First, You’ll Need a Google Account
There’s not much point setting up your own Google Analytics if the person or web company who designed your website have already set it up. So, the first point of call is to speak to them and ask if they have Google Analytics set up. If they have then great! All you need to do is give them a Google Account email address that you have access to (if you haven’t got one then you can get one here) and ask them to add you as a user in Google Analytics. Once they have added this, you’ll be able to view your Analytics by going to the following link and logging in using your Google Account details.
If you can’t get hold of the person who built your website
If you can’t get hold of the person who built your website then you’ll need to set up your own Analytics. To do this follow these steps:
- Click here to go to Google Analytics.
- Once you have signed in to your Google account, click Access Google Analytics.
- Click Sign up.
- Fill in your Account Name, Website Name, Website URL, and select an Industry Category and Reporting Time Zone.
- Under Data Sharing Options, check the boxes next to the options that you want.
- Click Get Tracking ID.
- From the Google Analytics Terms of Service Agreement that opens, click I Accept.
- Your tracking code will now be displayed. You can either add this to your website yourself, if you know how, or ask a web developer to add it for you.
Find out how many people are visiting your website by using Google Analytics
Now that you’ve got Google Analytics set up, you’ll be able to log in and find out how many people are visiting your website. There’s also lots of other really useful information in there so rather than try and explain here, I’ve recorded a short video to get you started with Google Analytics.
